Cugla contributes to a world record
The Limburg village of Wanssum holds a record. Haitsma Beton of Kootstertille placed eight prefabricated pre-stressed girders of no less than 69 metres here in June 2020 as part of the new Lienebrug. Never before have girders of this length been produced anywhere in the world.
Much specific knowledge requierd
Haitsma worked intensively with Cugla for this project. Producing such girders (100 m3 of concrete was processed per girder, pouring took only four hours) requires a lot of specific knowledge. The challenge during a landfill of this size is to avoid landfill seams and limit hydration temperatures. In addition, the compressive strength achieved must be high enough for the prestress to relax. This gives the beams the correct desired curve.

Steering mechanism
Cugla supported Haitsma in designing the mixture for these beams. We custom-developed the required excipients at our R&D Centre. In addition, to make sure the landfill ran optimally, we provided our client with a control mechanism that allowed her to properly anticipate the changing weather conditions.

250 tonnes each
The girders weigh over 250 tonnes each and were transported by water from the factory in Friesland to Limburg. The video below gives an impression of production, transport and assembly. The Lienebrug forms part of the new bypass that is supposed to relieve the village centre of Wanssum.
