Weather or no weather, always the same Levvel-blocs
To reinforce the Afsluitdijk, the Levvel construction consortium (BAM, Van Oord and Rebel) is producing so-called Levvel blocks for three years: 6,500-kilogram concrete blocks that serve on the sea side as breakwaters and reinforcement of the dyke body. That production takes place day in, day out at the fully automated factory in Harlingen.
Always on schedule by adapting adjuvants
As conditions change and the production cycle must remain the same, Levvel matches concrete composition to weather conditions. Cugla supports contractors in this process and adapts auxiliary materials when required. This customisation keeps production neatly on schedule.
The world is watching
The innovative design and therefore sustainable nature of the Levvel blocks (fifty per cent less concrete is needed than conventional solutions) is generating a lot of international interest in the project. For Levvel, it is extra exciting because she is producing her own concrete for the first time.

Summer and winter equal
Cugla’s meticulous support ensures that Levvel has exactly the same compressive strength development in winter months as in summer. Our guarantee that the blocks’ production cycle remains intact under all weather conditions is the main reason for choosing Cugla as an admixture supplier.
“That fine-tuning really goes down to the micro level. So we have exactly the same strength development in winter as in summer, which is very important in our production planning.”
